Founded in 1942 and located right in the center of DeKalb County, Avondale Estates is a historic city with a small population of about 3,000 residents.
On the southern end of the county, adjacent to Decatur and Oakhurst, Avondale Estates was named after William Shakespeare’s birthplace.
Residents in this close-knit community are amicable. The presence of popular eateries, an abundance of green space, and many local festivals make this area a desirable place to live.
This city boasts architectural diversity, with historic Swiss chalet, Tudor-style homes, ranches, split-levels, and newer constructions like single-residence homes, condos, apartments.

The lovely and well-maintained trails around the lake make it great for dog walking. Water bowls and clean-up bags are also available.

DeKalb County Schools, including Avondale Middle School, and Druid Hills High School, and Avondale Elementary School, are available for Avondale Estates’ young residents. The Waldorf School of Atlanta and The Friends School are some of the private schools near Avondale Estates.
The Museum School of Avondale Estates, the Charter school, and the DeKalb School of the Arts are some of the individual schools you’ll discover in the neighborhood. The world-famous Emory University, alongside other colleges and universities, is also within nearby access.
